How It Works

Student Elections take place in the week before, or during, the real election date. At a participating school, students form their own election commission, receive ballots matching the real election from us, and cast a secret vote on election day in their own polling room. The school's results are counted and published together with every other participating school, for example on the interactive map of Slovakia on this site.

Step by step

  1. Registration: the school signs up to take part in the current edition.
  2. Election commission: a three-student team responsible for running the vote at the school.
  3. Teacher as guarantor: one teacher acts as the contact person and oversees the process.
  4. Voter list: the commission compiles a list of eligible students, usually those aged 15 and over.
  5. Promotion: the school runs its own campaign among students, posters, announcements, social media.
  6. Materials from us: we send ballots matching the real election and promotional posters.
  7. Polling room: the school prepares a room and a ballot box for the secret vote.
  8. Election day: a secret vote, counted by the student commission at the school.
  9. Results: aggregated and published together with all participating schools.

Transparency and trust

Secret ballots and impartiality are at the core of the project. An individual school's results are never published externally. Only aggregated data for districts and regions is published, so school leadership and students can reflect on their own experience. The team also keeps schools, partners, media and the public informed about its activities on an ongoing basis.

Frequently asked questions

Who organizes Student Elections?

They are organized by active students, in cooperation with participating high schools and other organizations, such as the Bratislava Region Youth Council, municipal youth parliaments, and other youth organizations and initiatives.

Can the vote at a school run over several days?

Yes. The length of voting is decided by the student commission together with the responsible teacher.
