About
Student Elections is an educational project that teaches high school students in Slovakia how democracy works, on their own school grounds. At participating schools, we simulate real elections, parliamentary, presidential, municipal, regional and European, right before or during the actual election. Students form their own election commission, cast a secret vote for the real candidates and parties, and results are published alongside the real ones.
Our history
Student Elections has run since at least 2014, when the Institute for Public Affairs (IVO) first organized simulated municipal, presidential and European elections. Simulated parliamentary elections followed in 2016. The project was gradually taken over and grown by a team of active students supported by the Bratislava Region Youth Council (RMBRK), until it became an independent organization with its own legal personality.

Who we work with
Bratislava Region Youth Council (RMBRK) brings together children's and youth organizations, student school councils, youth workers, youth researchers and other professionals working with young people across the Bratislava region. It has supported Student Elections as an organizational partner for years.
"Pre Stredoškolákov" is a civic association founded in 2012 by a group of high schoolers from the C. S. Lewis Bilingual Grammar School in Bratislava. Today it is a community of active students, an information portal, a program of informal educational events, a mentoring Leadership Programme, and a peer program called Buddík. It is one of the partners involved in organizing Student Elections.
The Institute for Public Affairs (IVO) is an independent centre for public policy analysis. It organized the first edition of Student Elections in 2014, for municipal, presidential and European elections.
Prešov Region Youth Council collaborates with us on organizing Student Elections in the Prešov region.
Patrons
Over the years, the project has held the patronage or support of the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic, the Representation of the European Commission in Slovakia, the Bratislava, Žilina, Trnava, Banská Bystrica and Prešov self-governing regions, and Indícia, a non-profit organization for teachers.
